SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chemistry Work-Study, under direct supervision from faculty, performs various activities, including washing and sterilizing laboratory glass wear, preparing the labs, stocking chemicals and specimens, and assisting faculty when asked. The ideal candidate should be interested in becoming a science major or students who have an interest in learning about chemistry laboratory techniques and skills, are able to perform the essential functions listed below with faculty supervision while adhering to safety protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Routine cleaning of laboratory equipment and glass wear
- Assisting faculty in maintaining an up-to-date chemical inventory
- Stocking laboratory supplies
- Assisting faculty during instructional laboratories when asked
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace
- Washing and sterilizing laboratory glass wear, including use of autoclave
- Teamwork skills and patience
- Attention to detail
- Regular communication via email and other electronic sources
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to work independently as well as take direction and execute effectively
- Introductory knowledge of the scientific method and ability to keep thorough documentation
- Introductory knowledge of laboratory techniques and equipment
- Ability to think and make decisions independently
- Ability to strictly follow established safety protocols
