Assistant Director of Development – Community and Annual Funds

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations and programs designed to meet University annual fundraising goals and associated outreach efforts. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding local constituents, including but not limited to former students, current and former parents, community members, businesses, University staff and faculty, board members, statewide annual fund donors, and other prospects. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of 50 non-alumni constituents, planning and executing the Hill Country College Fund campaign, direct response fundraising such as direct mail, and digital fundraising. In addition, this position will help with the planning, execution, and support of all advancement activities and events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works with the Advancement team to achieve the fundraising goals for Schreiner University
  • Plan, organize, and execute annual fundraising activities to reach the annual operating goal and Hill Country College Fund Goals, including but not limited to:
    • The Hill Country College Fund
    • Direct mail and direct response
    • Digital and social media fund raising
    • Peer-to-peer fund raising
    • Personal solicitations
  • Work with the alumni office synchronize phone-a-thon and alumni direct response fund raising activities
  • Maintain an annual production schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship projects that include creating, developing, and executing video content, direct mail pieces, brochures, fact sheets, and other written materials that articulate the case for supporting the University. Materials may include solicitation appeals, proposals, programs for events, and marketing and communication materials targeted at donors and volunteers.
  • Participate in the prospect management process to coordinate high-end annual funds, major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Manage and engage a portfolio of up to 50 non-alumni, constituents through personal visits, community and University events, online meetings, phone calls, emails, and other strategies as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and work effectively and cooperatively with the President, VPA, development, advancement, and marketing staff and others on cultivation activities, solicitations, and multi-channeled solicitation strategies to meet goals.
  • Assist the VPA in departmental affairs, administration, and developing short-term and long-term strategies.
  • Assist the Alumni staff with planning and implementation of Phonathon, Recall, and other alumni activities.
  • Participate in and assist with Schreiner University activities such as the annual Schreiner University Christmas Tea, Recall (homecoming), cultivation events, and other activities/duties as assigned and, when possible, support the campus activities and groups: choir, athletics, student life, etc.
  • Utilize the alumni and donor database to record contact activities, proposals, and gift documentation as appropriate.
  • Travel as necessary in the fulfillment of these duties.

EDUCATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree and three years’ experience in fundraising or a related area, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education preferred.
  • Understanding the importance of being a good role model for honesty and integrity, and the ability to demonstrate sound business ethics and consistent adherence to and promotion of these competencies in all business and personal transactions.
  • Knowledge of database management software such as Raiser’s Edge desired.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and tools available for individual prospect research and tax laws affecting charitable giving.
  • Advanced project management skills, including skills to plan, implement and lead development projects and successful events, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting progress to senior managers.
  • Superior written and oral communication, public speaking, negotiating, organizational, analytical, and fundraising skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft platforms and tools such as Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); and online meeting platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate and motivate a broad spectrum of people, including donors, volunteers, board members, colleagues, and university leadership and students.
  • Results-oriented and data-driven individual with a proven ability to exceed ambitious goals.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, collaboratively, and within a team structure
  • Creative ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement programmatic activities from only very general guidelines.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and adapt to changing priorities and last-minute requests
  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight to visit prospects and donors, attend conferences and events, and work occasionally evenings and weekends
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance, and a good driving record
