The instructor for Intro to Visual Arts will oversee and lead and facilitate students through the introduction of basic art instruction and appreciation . Supervises and lectures and instructs students pertaining to the introduction to the arts. Follows the University academic schedule, and is responsible for recording and submitting grades, and instructs through the LMS, Canvas. 1340.INTRODUCTION TO THE VISUAL ARTS This course offers a diverse investigation of art and culture from the historical and contemporary perspectives. It is a discussion of the contributions of the arts to the understanding of aesthetics, observation of historic styles, traditional and contemporary techniques, and the influence of cultural media. More time is allotted for this course to allow for field trips and assignments in various media. This is an introductory art class recommended to fulfill the core fine arts requirement for non-art majors
Essential Functions
Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for undergraduate -level instruction; written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching activities; ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.
MFA preferred, but equivalent teaching experience and/or professional/industry experience may be accepted.

Essential Functions
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate students.
- Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, papers, etc.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
- Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
- Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
- Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements related to teaching responsibilities.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Provide assessment documentation and record outcomes according to the SLO’s and the University’s Assessment practice and monitoring.
