Job DetailsJob Location: Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital - Manistique, MI 49854Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: DayPOSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates and collaborates the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for daily surgical procedures in surgery and related departments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleans, sterilizes and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments according to written policies, procedures and techniques for all areas of the hospital and Rural Health Clinic.
Follows MDPH regulations and recommendations for Central Sterile Processing.
Decontaminates instruments, case carts, and other reusable equipment for all departments in the hospital and Rural Health Clinic. Assembles trays and inspects instruments for function; institutes appropriate measures prior to assembly should instruments require maintenance or replacement.
Sterilizes instruments and equipment to include: surgical trays, ED packs, single instruments, drills and saws; sterilizes rigid and flexible endoscopes.
Conducts and keeps records of monitoring tests to ensure that correct sterilizer time, temperature and pressure are maintained as required by JCAHO and MDPH; changes filters as needed.
Responsible for cystoscopy/endoscopy sterile processing. Coordinates sterilizing procedures with Ambulatory Care Nursing staff.
Maintains cleanliness of autoclaves and ensures that all Steris equipment is working properly. Notifies appropriate department supervisor of any discrepancies.
Maintains a supply of scrub uniforms for nursing and physicians in the Surgery/Ambulatory Care locker rooms.
Keeps Central Sterile Processing clean and uncluttered. Does routine cleaning of shelves and counters.
Answers telephones, applies surgery charges and enters lab orders into the computer.
Follows all hospital policies and procedures.
Attends all required meetings, in-services, and conferences.
Interacts with all Surgery/Ambulatory Care department personnel and all other department personnel as necessary.
Provides assistance to hospital personnel and medical staff. Provides information as indicated.
Assists in transporting patients to and from Surgery Department.
Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalent.
Must have Central Sterile Processing Certification or complete the certification program within one year.
BLS certified.
Minimum one-year of experience in instrument processing.
Knowledge in basic sterile technique.
Knowledge in various types of surgical instrumentation, including power equipment.
Must be able to operate sterile processing department equipment.
Must be able to assist in the OR suite as required.
Complete understanding and compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
Satisfactory health as evidenced by the employee physical exam
