The ideal candidate will assist students with navigating online learning platforms, staying organized, and maintaining progress in their courses while working under the supervision of a certified teacher.
REPORTS TO: Program Director & Director of Student Services
SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $17.30/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: 165 days
FTE: 1.0
Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
POSITION SUMMARY: The Paraeducator supports students engaged in virtual, online or classroom based coursework by providing supervision, guidance, and academic assistance. The paraeducator helps ensure students remain engaged, organized, and on track for course completion while working under the direction of licensed instructional staff. The paraeducator assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. The paraeducator assists the certified teacher with clerical duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Assisting students in achieving academic success
- Working with students who may be disruptive in class
- Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
- Social integration
- Consultation and collaboration with Special Education, Regular Education Teachers, and Program Director as well as related service staff
- Imparting life skills such as self-hygiene and social/emotional skills
- Assisting the teacher in implementing positive behavior plans and systems appropriate to the individual student is a responsibility of this position.
- Communication with other paraprofessionals and staff to keep track of student movements, schedules, and locations.
- Any and all other duties as may be assigned
- Hold an Associates or higher degree, or
- Have a minimum of 48.00 hours college credit, or successfully pass the Work Keys test (through the Workforce Center) for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing.
- Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- School-based learning lab or supervised online learning environment
- Frequent interaction with students and staff
- Extended computer and screen use
- Occasional evening events (parent conferences, school activities)
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and district approved evaluation tools.
