Position Summary:
The Middle School Math Teacher at ScholarMade Achievement Place will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in math and science to students in grades 6-8. The teacher will play a critical role in preparing students for success in high school and beyond by fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching math and science, experience with diverse learners, and the ability to integrate hands-on learning and technology into the classroom to promote student engagement and achievement.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Plan and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons in Math that meet the needs of all students and support academic growth.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including project-based learning, collaborative group work, hands-on activities, and the integration of technology to enhance learning.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs, ensuring all students are able to access and understand the content.
- Create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning in Math and Science.
- Data-Driven Instruction:
- Regularly assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, using data to guide instructional decisions and provide targeted support to students.
- Collaborate with colleagues to analyze assessment data, develop interventions, and adjust instruction to address gaps in learning.
- Track and report student progress using school-approved systems and communicate progress to students, parents, and administrators regularly.
- Classroom Management and Culture:
- Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment that encourages respect, responsibility, and academic excellence.
- Implement consistent classroom management strategies aligned with ScholarMade’s behavior expectations and emotional intelligence framework.
- Promote a growth mindset and resilience in students by encouraging effort, persistence, and problem-solving.
- Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with fellow Math teachers, as well as other content area teachers, to plan interdisciplinary projects and share best practices.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and professional development opportunities to continuously improve instructional practices.
- Work closely with the Special Education team to differentiate instruction and implement accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, providing them with strategies to support learning at home.
- Curriculum and Resource Utilization:
- Use school-provided resources and other approved instructional materials to support student learning.
- Integrate literacy skills into Science instruction by incorporating reading and writing activities that align with the Math and Science standards.
- Provide students with opportunities for STEM-related activities that foster real-world application of Math and Science concepts.
- Encourage students to participate in science fairs, math competitions, and other enrichment activities that promote academic excellence.
- Student Support and Differentiation:
- Provide small group instruction and individualized support to students who need additional help in mastering Math and Science concepts.
- Participate in the school’s Response to Intervention (RTI) process, working with colleagues to identify and implement Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions for students needing academic support.
- Monitor students’ social-emotional development and collaborate with the school’s counselor to support students’ well-being and personal growth.
