Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation.  The Alpharetta office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our growing engineering group.  We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing both field and analytical skills, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Apply professional principles, complex numerical models, and innovative solutions to real-world problems as part of a team of engineers and scientists while under the supervision of senior engineering personnel. 
• Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD with input and guidance from senior engineers.
• Prepare complete plans and specifications to be part of construction documents. 
• Develop engineering recommendations and write technical reports. 
• Perform hydraulic, geotechnical, and/or structural analyses and design calculations for dams and hydraulic structures including spillways, dam outlet works, and diversion and check structures. 
• Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures. 
• Collect data and measurements in the field. 
• Observe geotechnical subsurface exploration and preparing field logs for test borings.
• Observe construction and perform materials testing.
  
  

Required Skills/Experience: 

• 0-2 years of professional experience  
• Bachelor's Degree in Water Resources, Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills  
• Positive attitude  
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement  
• Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel
• Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
  
  

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

• Familiarity with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SITES, GeoStudio, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and GIS software is a plus, but not required. These programs are used extensively, so a willingness to learn them is a must.
• Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.) 
• Master’s degree 
• EIT certification 
  
  

Other Requirements: 

• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check 
• Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening 
  
  

The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
