Job Description

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our growing practice. We are looking for motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel
  • Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation
  • Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells, borings, excavations, drains, and surface water bodies
  • Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing
  • Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results
  • Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results

Required Skills/Experience

  • Prior experience on construction projects (minimum 2 yrs is preferred)
  • Technician certification (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO)
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or the ability to obtain in 6 months
  • MSHA 24 Training or the ability to obtain in 6 months
  • Excellent mathematic computational skills
  • High School degree
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Possess good oral, written, communication, skills
  • Candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside.
  • Basic Knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team
  • Attention to detail and well-organized
  • Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
  • Basic understanding of and ability to use of hand tools

Other Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

The compensation range for this position is between $16/hr to $22/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
