Position Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Associate supports Schmitt Music’s warehouse operations by ensuring accurate, timely, and safe movement of incoming and outgoing product. This role supports inbound receiving, outbound shipping, freight coordination, and daily warehouse workflows to help ensure product is handled accurately and efficiently across all sales channels and internal operations.
This position works closely with the Shipping & Receiving Lead and other warehouse team members to support receiving, packing, shipping, and product movement while maintaining strong inventory accuracy, safe material handling, and a high level of service for both internal and external customers.

Team members in this role are expected to be actively engaged in daily warehouse operations, including hands-on participation in receiving, packing, shipping, and other operational tasks as needed.
Warehouse work involves standing, walking, lifting, and moving merchandise throughout the facility. Team members must be able to safely lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds and operate warehouse equipment as trained.

- Support inbound receiving operations including band and orchestra instruments, pianos, accessories, and other merchandise from vendors and suppliers.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips to help ensure product accuracy and completeness.
- Inspect incoming shipments for visible damage and communicate discrepancies or issues to the Lead Shipping & Receiving or other appropriate operational leadership.
- Complete accurate inventory system transactions during receiving processes as assigned.
- Unload trucks and move merchandise into appropriate warehouse locations using approved material handling practices.
- Support outbound packing and shipping operations for staged orders prepared by the Fulfillment team.
- Pack and prepare merchandise for shipment using appropriate packaging methods to protect fragile instruments and accessories.
- Generate shipping labels, tracking information, and related documentation as assigned.
- Help ensure shipments to stores, Educational Representatives, customers, and other company locations are packed accurately and shipped on schedule.
- Maintain organized receiving, packing, and shipping areas to support efficient warehouse workflows.
- Assist with inventory checks, discrepancy resolution, and communication of receiving or shipping issues to the Lead Shipping & Receiving.
- Follow standard work procedures, safe material handling practices, and operational expectations in all shipping and receiving activities.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve workflow, reduce product damage, and increase operational efficiency.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a strong team spirit by supporting other warehouse functions when seasonal demand or business priorities require additional help.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Forklift certification or experience.
- Experience with warehouse management systems or inventory software.
- Experience shipping or handling fragile merchandise.
- Experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, or distribution operations preferred.
