ABOUT THE ROLE:
Schaefer Plastics is seeking a mid-level Project Manager to drive internal projects and process improvement initiatives across our injection molding operations. This is a technical, hands-on role focused on enhancing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in injection molding, lean manufacturing, and cross-functional collaboration.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with engineering or technical project leadership experience who enjoys identifying inefficiencies, solving problems, and delivering measurable results in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage internal projects focused on process optimization, cost reduction, and operational improvements.
- Define project scope, timelines, resources, and deliverables in collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure on-time delivery of milestones.
- Partner closely with internal departments, including Manufacturing, Sales, IT, and Controls, to execute initiatives.
- Use lean manufacturing principles to drive improvements in quality, output, and productivity.
- Identify and escalate project risks, resource constraints, or changes in scope.
- Track and report on project status, resource allocation, and timelines to leadership.
- Contribute to building a continuous improvement culture throughout the plant.
- Support documentation and standardization of processes post-implementation.
- Ensure internal project hand-offs are smooth and support long-term adoption.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of project management or process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in injection molding or plastics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; MS Project or similar project management tools is a plus.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally based on business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP or Six Sigma certification is a plus
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a technical manufacturing setting
- Working knowledge of automation or control systems is a bonus
