What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Estimator position at Schaefer Plastics North America, LLC.?
About the Company
At Schaefer Plastics, we are manufacturing industry-leading solutions and driving responsible practices towards a sustainable future for generations to come. As a family-owned company since 1937, we are deeply committed to delivering exceptional customer care through high-quality, innovative waste and packaging solutions. Our customers and their satisfaction are paramount to our business; we strive to understand their needs and exceed their expectations at every turn. We excel in injection molding, producing durable waste and recycling carts, and pioneering reusable packaging systems that reduce carbon footprints. Our dynamic and inclusive culture fosters personal and professional growth, making us an ideal employer for career advancement.
We’re hiring a Cost Estimator to support our internal dunnage and packaging work at Schaefer Plastics.
This role is hands-on and detail-driven. You’ll take drawings and specs and turn them into real, usable cost estimates that help our teams release orders, build the right solutions, and keep customers moving.
While we’d love someone with a packaging background, we know great estimators come from all kinds of places — construction estimating, manufacturing support, engineering, material costing, or even early-career grads who are strong in Excel and want to learn.
What you’d actually be doing:
- Building cost estimates for internal dunnage (foam, corrugated, plastics, thermoformed trays)
- Translating drawings into Excel-based cost models
- Working closely with design, fabrication, customer service, and vendors
- Supporting quotes, POs, and pricing accuracy
- Learning how our packaging solutions are designed and built — end to end
This could be a great fit if you:
- Like structured work and details that matter
- Are comfortable in Excel (pivot tables > macros)
- Enjoy collaborating with technical and shop-floor teams
- Want stability, growth, and real exposure to how manufacturing decisions are made
This is an onsite role with clear ownership, strong cross-functional visibility, and room to grow over time. If this sounds like you — or someone you know — I’d love to connect or answer questions.
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
