Way Mechanical is a leading Mechanical Contractor based in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Nashville, Charlotte, and Raleigh. We specialize in commercial air conditioning, plumbing, and mechanical piping, as well as the maintenance of these systems. Way Mechanical is at the forefront of design-build/design-assist, preconstruction, commissioning, building information modeling (BIM), and quality control. We are looking for an experienced Quality Control Technician to join our team!
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing quality standards across all phases of commercial mechanical construction projects. This role ensures that HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems are installed in accordance with contract documents, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
- Ensure compliance with contract documents, approved submittals, specifications, and drawings.
- Verify installations meet applicable codes and standards
- Perform routine and milestone-based field inspections of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical installations.
- Conduct quality audits of subcontractors and internal crews.
- Maintain QC documentation, including inspection reports, checklists, test results, and punch lists.
- Review and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders for quality impacts.
- Support close-out documentation, including O&M manuals, warranties, and as-built drawings.
- Provide regular quality status reports for project leadership.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and Engineers to address quality concerns.
- Interface with owners, engineers, commissioning agents, and inspectors during quality reviews.
- Participate in pre-installation meetings, coordination meetings, and lessons-learned reviews.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in commercial mechanical construction (HVAC, plumbing, piping).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, installation methods, and industry standards.
- Thorough understanding of applicable mechanical and plumbing codes.
- Experience with quality control processes in large commercial projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Proficient in documentation and reporting using construction management software
- Experience working on healthcare, higher education, data center, government, or other large-scale commercial projects.
