About the Role
The Groomer in Training role bridges the gap between Dog Bather and Dog Groomer. It's designed for someone with foundational dog-care and bathing skills who is ready to develop professional grooming skills.You'll continue performing essential hygiene services while receiving hands-on training in clipper work, scissoring, coat preparation, and Scenthound's standardized puppy cuts. As your skills, efficiency, and confidence grow, you'll take on more grooming responsibilities with the goal of progressing into a Dog Groomer role.
What You'll Do
- Perform bathing, blow drying, brushing, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, nail services, and gland expressions
- Properly prep dogs and coats for grooming
- Learn safe clipper and scissor techniques, including paw, sanitary, face, and finishing work
- Learn and perform Scenthound's standardized puppy cuts as your skills progress
- Build grooming speed, quality, and consistency through hands-on coaching
- Follow all dog handling and safety protocols to provide a low-stress experience
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment
- Work collaboratively with the team and apply coaching and feedback
What We're Looking For
- Previous professional dog bathing or hands-on dog-care experience preferred
- Strong foundational bathing, drying, brushing, nail, and dog-handling skills
- A genuine desire to develop professional grooming skills
- Coachable and committed to learning and continued improvement
- Patient, adaptable, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
- Team-oriented with strong communication and time-management skills
- Reliable, punctual, and passionate about dog wellness and safety
- Physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation and willingness to work in a smoke-free environment
