The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.
Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Purchasing Manager for the structural steel fabrication plant. This team member will assist the Purchasing Manager in leading a team that provides accurate estimate information for job-related materials to estimating; procures raw material, MRO, and other supplies for the plant; and meets the quality requirements, customer expectations, and schedule requirements of the fabrication plant. To complete all the tasks and responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager in his/her absence.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Source all raw material for the plant and sublet fabricators to minimize overall cost and meet job schedules
- Manage raw materials to consider several sources, including mills and warehouses, and several rolling schedules. Be aware of bundle quantity rules
- Understand and apply ASTM A3.6 for all job-related materials
- Understand (change/establish as necessary) and apply inventory procedures for purchasing, receiving, removing, scrap disposition, obsolete material resale, and cycle counting raw materials.
- Manage inventory for job-related materials (including computer system transactions and physical movements)
- Source all MRO and supplies for the plant.
- Manage inventory for MRO and supplies (including minimum stock levels, order quantities, etc.)
- Mult and allocate materials in support of the plant to maximize efficiency and yield.
- Lead a team of diverse individuals to accomplish the responsibilities.
- Maintain raw material pricing in estimating software.
- Review and update individual estimates to ensure accurate pricing and cover foreseeable pricing changes.
- Manage incoming freight, unloading of freight, and Raw Material bar code tag creation.
- Work closely with accounting to ensure timely approval and payment of invoices.
- Facilitate and participate during the full physical counts of inventoried materials.
- Generate Raw Material cutting bills for the plant.
- Manage raw material flow to the plant to maximize efficiency
- Manage reservations of materials including releasing reservations at the end of jobs (or portions of jobs)
- Other Duties as assigned

Education/Training/Experience
- Bachelors degree in material management related field.
- Minimum 5 years in Steel industry or related field
- Minimum 5 years in Purchasing
- Minimum 1 year in supervision
