We are looking for a Senior Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment to join our Irvine-based team.
The Role :
As our Senior Accountant, you will be the engine of our financial department. You will work directly with the CFO to ensure the integrity of our general ledger and the accuracy of our project-based financial reporting. This is a "roll-up-your-sleeves" role where you will manage the full accounting cycle—from daily transaction oversight to complex month-end closures.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting: Lead the month-end and year-end close process; prepare accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
WIP & Job Costing: Audit project cost data (labor, material, equipment) to ensure accurate revenue recognition and identify "profit fade" early.
Compliance Leadership: Oversee sales/use tax filings (CDTFA) and assist the Payroll team with union benefit remittances and DIR/LCPtracker compliance.
Audit Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for external CPA review and union trust fund audits.
Internal Controls: Maintain and improve accounting procedures to protect company assets and ensure GAAP compliance.
Staff Mentorship: Provide guidance to AP, AR, and Receiving clerks to ensure data entry matches project accounting standards.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Construction/Contracting accounting.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
Software Skills: Proficiency in construction ERP systems (e.g. Syspro (preferred), Sage, Foundation, Vista, or Procore Financials) and advanced MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs).
Union Savvy: Familiarity with California prevailing wage laws and union (IBEW) fringe benefit reporting is a significant plus.
Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to meet strict monthly deadlines.
Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 Benefits & Bonus Potential
