What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder/Fabricator position at Sawyerbuilt Welding & Fabrication?
The General Welder / Fabricator is responsible for assisting with the layout, fit-up, welding, fabrication, and inspection of structural steel assemblies and related shop projects. This position works from blueprints, shop drawings, measurements, and supervisor direction to produce accurate, high-quality work that meets Sawyerbuilt’s shop standards.
This role requires attention to detail, safe work habits, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Prior welding, fabrication, or shop experience is preferred, but Sawyerbuilt is willing to train the right person who demonstrates a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to quality.
Job Duties include:
*Review and follow blueprints, shop drawings, measurements, and verbal instructions to complete assigned fabrication work.
*Layout, fit, and tack-weld structural steel assemblies and related components according to project specifications.
*Operate MIG welding equipment to produce quality, structurally sound welds in various positions.
*Use shop tools and machinery safely, including ironworkers, band saws, grinders, drill presses, and other related equipment.
*Measure, inspect, and verify finished work for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and conformance with shop standards.
*Assist with cutting, grinding, drilling, fitting, and preparing materials for fabrication and welding.
*Identify material issues, equipment concerns, defects, or quality concerns and report them to the Welding Supervisor.
*Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and moving steel materials and completed components.
*Operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment only after being properly trained and authorized by Sawyerbuilt.
*Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
*Follow all shop safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
*Work cooperatively with supervisors, welders, shop helpers, and other team members to support production needs and project deadlines.
*Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour
