What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer / Material Coordinator position at Savillex?
Company Overview
Savillex is a leader in providing high-performance container and containment solutions for life science, semiconductor, aerospace, geochemistry and chemical industries. With almost 50 years expertise in molding fluoropolymers and clean-manufacturing conditions, our team is committed to delivering world-class product quality, exceptional service and innovation.
Position Summary
As a Buyer at Savillex, you will play a critical role in sourcing, procuring and managing the materials, components and services required to support our production of high-performance, precision-molded products. You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality and supply-chain teams to ensure that our operations have the right materials at the right time, cost and quality—while supporting our cleanroom, environmentally sensitive and highly controlled manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure raw materials, components, tooling, services and indirect supplies in support of production (including fluoropolymers, custom molded parts, tool design, clean-room consumables, etc.).
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships: evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts/terms, monitor supplier performance, ensure quality and reliability.
- Review purchase requisitions and translate into purchase orders, ensuring clarity on specifications, quantity, delivery schedules and quality requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels, material lead-times and production schedules to coordinate timely ordering and avoid disruptions in production.
- Close and review completed job travelers from shipping and operations.
- Work closely with manufacturing/operations to anticipate material needs, adjust to schedule changes, expedite when needed and manage backlog.
- Strong sense of teamwork and accountability; demonstrates respect for colleagues and vendors in every interaction
- Values integrity, communication, and partnership—both internally and externally
- Contributes positively to a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and mutual support.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure purchased materials/components meet required specifications (especially critical in fluoropolymer molding, clean-environment production, and trace-contaminant-sensitive applications).
- Track purchase order status, follow up with suppliers, manage changes or delays, update stakeholders, and impacts production planning.
- Analyze spend data, cost drivers, and supplier performance metrics to recommend cost savings, alternative sourcing, consolidation of suppliers or strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Support risk-management efforts: evaluate supplier risk (quality, delivery, compliance), develop backup sourcing plans, and maintain supplier documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, quality management system requirements, clean-room and contamination control protocols, and relevant regulatory obligations (for life-science/analytical industries).
- Assist in tooling procurement, custom mold or tool build services as needed for new production or modification of existing product lines.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in procurement: streamline PO processes, improve supplier lead-times, improve delivery reliability, reduce cost and waste.
Qualifications / Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing environment — preferably in a highly regulated, precision, or clean-manufacturing environment (life sciences, analytical labware, semiconductor, etc.).
- 2 years past ERP experience, ideally utilizing Epicor.
- Experience working with specialty materials (e.g., fluoropolymers, precision molded parts) or with tooling and custom-build sourcing is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage supplier relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple purchase orders, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Analytical mindset: able to review spend data, identify trends, perform cost-savings calculations and make sourcing recommendations.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills — to interface effectively with suppliers, internal stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, quality) and cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation and tracking capabilities (purchase orders, material specs, supplier performance records).
- Proficiency with procurement systems / ERP software (experience with order placement, tracking, vendor management).
- Ability to work in a manufacturing setting with associated demands (e.g., clean-room protocols, time-sensitive deliveries, material traceability).
- Familiarity with quality systems (ISO, GMP, clean-manufacturing) and regulatory expectations (especially for life-science/analytical supply chain) is a plus.
- Flexibility and responsiveness: able to respond to urgent material needs, expedite orders, adjust plans as production demands change.
