POSITION FUNCTION:
The Accountant performs a variety of critical duties to ensure the effective operation of accounting functions in alignment with established bank policies and procedures. Accountant to oversee diverse financial tasks within our organization. Core responsibilities include reconciling general ledger accounts, managing Accounts Payable, ensuring tax compliance, and facilitating month-end close processes. The role requires an independent, solutions-oriented professional able to collaborate cross-functionally with bank officers, managers, department heads, and tellers. Strong analytical abilities and communication skills are essential to reconcile accounts, research discrepancies, process transactions, generate reports, and provide guidance on accounting matters. The Accountant will demonstrate discretion and judgment in handling confidential information. This is a full time, non-exempt position reporting to the Assistant Controller.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of all assigned general ledger accounts including revenue and balance sheet analyses to ensure timely identification and resolution of discrepancies.
- Record and post various journal entries related to investments, payroll, taxes, rents receivable, and other transactions.
- Participate in month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate recording of all journal entries to meet financial reporting deadlines.
- Responsible for managing the Accounts Payable function end-to-end, including providing guidance on receipt and payment of vendor invoices, conducting OFAC searches, maintaining vendor data, generating BSA reports, and preparing reports as needed. Process all invoices accurately and timely per approval workflows to ensure proper expense recognition and payment.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and related prepaid expense schedules by recording acquisitions and disposals, posting depreciation, tracking asset values and accumulated depreciation, and reconciling schedules to the general ledger monthly to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Provide support in coding and managing the fixed asset and prepaid expense budgets.
- Manage sales and IRA taxes by reviewing activity, prepare and remit payments to appropriate agencies.
- Manage the monthly close process for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, investments, and operating expenses. ensure all appropriate accrual journal entries are recorded, validating supporting schedules and documentation, for the accounting period in a timely manner to meet financial reporting deadlines.
- Provides support to supervisor related to internal and external audit requests by researching transaction details and pulling reports.
- Manage annual 1099 reporting process by collecting requisite vendor data, maintaining accurate documentation, preparing, and distributing annual 1099 tax forms.
- Compile various reports and data for regulatory reporting (Call reports, DIF, etc.), and other ad hoc reports required by Supervisor.
- Foster collaborative relationships and maintain open communication channels across all departments and levels of the organization to ensure efficient cross-functional teamwork, transparent information sharing, and achievement of company-wide goals.
- Support the Finance Department by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to inquiries.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and create accounting efficiencies.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance, or the equivalent in accounting experience and or related certifications.
- 3 years of proven experience in accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously utilizing exceptional time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strong technical accounting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must have full hand dexterity required to operate computer terminal and related equipment.
- Must have full eye coordination required to operate computer and teller terminal.
- Regularly drives to and attends meetings.
- Frequently moves around bank, between levels or floors while performing duties.
- Regularly stands for long periods of time.
- Regularly sits at desk or computer workstation for periods of time.
