Basic Function
Save Ellis Island is looking for a friendly, customer-focused weekend Visitor Services Associate to support daily operations and provide a great experience for visitors. This role includes welcoming guests, promoting and selling tours and memberships, and helping keep tour programs running smoothly.
This position also acts as a backup guide, leading “Hard Hat Tours” of the unrestored Ellis Island Hospital complex when needed. These tours give visitors special access to areas not open to the public. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is organized, comfortable with sales, and enjoys history and working with people.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist visitors with a friendly, professional, and welcoming attitude
- Provide accurate information about the unrestored Ellis Island Hospital, exhibits, programs, and events
- Promote and sell tickets for Hard Hat Tours
- Manage daily scheduling of tour staff, including attendance tracking and coordination
- Respond to visitor inquiries, resolve concerns, and provide assistance as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting visitor services area
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless daily operations
- Monitor visitor flow and recommend improvements to enhance the visitor experience
- Stay up to date on daily operations, events, promotions, and membership benefits, and communicate updates to staff
- Handle customer feedback, complaints, and incident reports in a timely and professional manner
- Conduct daily walkthroughs of tour routes to ensure visitor safety
- Prepare daily manifests
- Lead 90-minute guided Hard Hat Tours of the unrestored Ellis Island Hospital complex
- Present historical content using a provided script while incorporating personal storytelling style
- Deliver engaging, educational, and memorable experiences for visitors
- Ensure visitor safety and compliance with all health and safety protocols
- Answer visitor questions and adapt tours to different audiences
- Perform light administrative tasks related to tour operations
Qualifications
· High School diploma or equivalent required.
· Proven experience in sales or customer service; strong sales background is essential.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Ability to engage with diverse visitors in a friendly and approachable manner.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to multitask and mange time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· Proficient in the use of computer systems.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Work Schedule
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
Hours - 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 15 hours per week, 5 hours per day
