POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Technology is responsible for implementing school district policies and procedures related to technology, developing and managing the technology budget and supervising the computer technicians in collaboration with building administrators. The Director of Technology is responsible for all components of the district's computer networks, including network and data security and telecommunications connectivity including Internet, telephone and email accessibility. The Director maintains the integrity of computer network infrastructure throughout the school district. This person oversees the installation and maintenance of computers and computer related hardware and evaluates and recommends hardware and software purchases and maintains a focus on using technology to support the various planned educational programs provided to students. The Director maintains effective working relationships with administrators and staff, works under pressure, prioritizes tasks, and quickly adjusts to changes in scheduled plans. The Director actively pursues the training and skills necessary to support the district's computer systems, networks and related software. This person effectively supervises and evaluates the computer technicians and works collaboratively with school administrators and teachers.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, performs the following essential functions:
Policy and Procedure:
In collaboration with central office and building administration, supervises the implementation of the district’s policies related to the use of technology.
Ensures the effective implementation of the district's ICT program and the development of student electronic portfolios to demonstrate ICT proficiencies.
Provides emergency response to mission critical system failures as deemed necessary.
Provides the Superintendent an updated, detailed diagram of the network's design and an updated list of all security codes and passwords for network servers, alliances, and related devices protected by passwords.
Training:
Prepares user-friendly instructions in the operation of hardware and applicable software.
Provides ongoing training to improve the capacity of the technology support staff.
Proposes effective uses of technology to the district's professional staff.
Provides occasional training programs for district employees in the use of computer hardware and software.

Maintenance and Security:
Maintains network integrity and security.
Maintain and oversee DPA from personal information in regards to software acceptable use
Maintains an effective network and desktop management system, a retrievable data back-up system for all users, and an effective disaster recovery system.
Maintains required archive of all communications over the network using a searchable archiving system.
Maintains as fully functional all network hardware including servers, all network appliances and related devices and network related software systems.
Maintains an accurate and up-to-date inventory of the district's hardware and software.
With the technology support staff, provides all users with timely and effective assistance in the use of hardware and software.
Performs network troubleshooting to quickly and efficiently isolate, diagnose and remedy network problems.
Provides advanced hardware technical assistance and support, troubleshoots and resolves system hardware and communications failures and conflicts.
Arrangements for the maintenance, repair or replacement of hardware.
Upgrades network hardware and software components when advisable.
Serves as the system contact for communication and coordination with the NH Department of Education in the area of technology, submitting all State required electronic data and coordination of state technology assessments.
Supervision:
Assesses the need for and supervises the purchase of technology hardware and software.
Effectively supervises and evaluates the technology support staff.
Oversees installation and operation of the district's computer labs.
Supervises and assists with the installation and configuration of computer hardware and software in the district's offices and schools.
Collaborative roles:
In collaboration with central office staff, manages the E-Rate reimbursement program.
In collaboration with the central office and building administration, assures that all local, state and federal regulations related to the use of the Internet are implemented in the schools.
Develops an annual budget for technology with input from staff and knowledge gained from research into the appropriate and effective uses of technology.
Supports the appropriate and effective use of the Student Information System administrative software for record keeping purposes.
Provides guidance to principals in developing, implementing and maintaining progressive plans for effective use of technology in their schools.
Remains informed as to regional, state and national efforts to make appropriate and effective use of technology in a K-12 school environment.
Facilitates meetings of the district’s Technology Committee.
In collaboration with the Technology Committee, annually updates the district’s technology plan.
Keeps building principals informed about technology needs and changes in their schools.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
