Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Director of Student Support Services. The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for the systemic and day-to-day provision of instructional, psychological, behavioral, evaluation, progress-monitoring, and compliance services for Special Education and Section 504 students. The roles primary responsibility is to ensure that all identified special education students receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education in the Least Restrictive Environment in compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations. The Director is the primary person responsible for providing the necessary financial and program information to the Agency of Education and to the RNESU Director of Business and Finance, as required by law, regulation, and RNESU policy.The Director serves on the RNESU Leadership Team, working collaboratively with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of CIA, and the Director of Business and Finance to fulfill administrative responsibilities.
The Director is supervised by the Superintendent of Schools.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the development and implementation of the Local Education Agency Plan for Special Education and affiliated budgets, as required by state and federal laws.Assure completion of Child Identification, Child Count, and Service Plan activities.Ensure sufficient resources and support for teachers to make curriculum adaptations.Assure timely completion of Service Plan, Medicaid Reinvestment Plan, and Care and Custody budgets.As necessary, represent the school district in resolving due process or other legal matters related to special services.Serve as the LEA for all special education financial decisions at IEP meetings.Responsible for the administration, supervision and development of all special services grants in coordination with the Business Manager.Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of faculty and staff.Works collaboratively in recruiting, screening, and hiring of professional and paraprofessional staff.Directly supervises school psychologists, executive administrative assistant, special education teacher leaders, Special Education Supervisors, and District 504 Coordinator.Works cooperatively with both supervisors to ensure compliance of secondary and elementary special educators and Paraeducators.In collaboration with building principals, supervises and evaluates all elementary special services professionals and Paraprofessionals.Communicates/Collaborates with others to support programs and services: Serve as the non-discrimination director for the supervisory union regarding Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying. When necessary, serve as the districts evaluator of discrimination claims.Serve as the person responsible for students with special needs at Mendon and Chittenden High Schools (IEPs and 504 plans).Supervises and oversees the RNESU 504 Coordinator.Serves as the RNESU Homeless LiaisonRepresents the schools to the RNESU Special Education Advisory CouncilActive member of the RNESU Leadership Team and Administrative Council.Other duties as judged necessary and assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. QUALIFICATIONSThree or more years of PK-12 teaching experience as a licensed educatorSuccessful administrative experience required; Three years of administrative experience preferred. currently licensed or able to earn a license as a Director of Special Education Principal Experience preferredMasters Degree in Special Education or Educational AdministrationEvidence of excellent communication skills, both in speaking and writing, high energy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to complete multiple complex tasks with attention to detail in a timely manner.In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations governing special education, including the appropriate IEP process and development, Ability to administer and interpret educational/psycho-educational assessments.
