Program Instructor/Outdoor Educator

Camp Saturna is located near Maple Falls, WA. We host 5^th & 6^th grade students from local school districts to take part in our outdoor education (environmental education & outdoor recreation) program.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing outdoor educator to join us for this important and fun program! The Program Instructor/Outdoor Educator position will provide environmental education instruction and support outdoor recreation activities.

This is a temporary program that will run for four (4) consecutive weeks with the following schedule: 

• April 27-May 1, Training and preparation 

• May 4-5, 7-8 - Day camps 

• May 11-12, 14-15 - Day camps 

• May 18-19, 21-22 - Day camps

Location: Camp Saturna, Silver Lake, WA (5 miles north of Maple Falls, WA) – on site

Starting wage range: $19.00 - 22.00per hour (DOE)

Primary duties include:

• Provide full-day environmental education instruction for a group of approximately 14-18 students. 
• Learning and teaching environmental education topics from the Camp Saturna curriculum. 
• Being the lead instructor for the environmental education lesson portion of the day. 
• Supporting outdoor recreation instructors in activities including climbing wall, archery, and challenge course. 
• Assisting with mealtime/snack supervision. 
• Engaging in age-appropriate behavior management by modelling desired behaviors, creating individual connections with students and using positive reinforcement. 
• Practice effective risk management at all times, creating a safe learning experience for all.  
• Maintain clear, responsive, honest, and respectful communications with students and staff.

Our Employee Benefits package includes:

• Travel stipend if daily commute exceeds 40 miles, round trip.

Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience working with youth in an outdoor setting
• Basic First Aid & CPR certified- current or willing to obtain
• Basic computer skills
• Candidates must successfully complete pre-employment background check with suitability for working with youth
