Overview

As a Paper Machine Manager, you will provide leadership for all ongoing operational, organizational, and business aspects of the #2 paper machine. This position is the focal point and area of accountability for economically producing quality products, properly managing assets, and leading the workforce in a way that promotes safety, innovation, personal development, environmental compliance, teamwork, and success.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of strategy that maximizes the capabilities of the people, processes, and equipment to drive results and support the operations objectives of the business. This will include working closely with maintenance, process engineering, technical, pulping, and finishing/shipping to provide overall day-to-day leadership as well as longer term planning of paper machine operations. In all of these activities, the focus will be on continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity and efficiency, cost reduction, training and development, and labor relations.
  • Provide leadership and support to direct reports so that they can implement the strategy that will lead to continuous improvement in their respective areas. There are opportunities to improve in all areas of the operation and this person will be a resource and facilitator for the team. Use appropriate metrics to communicate objectives, measure performance, and create accountability and engagement throughout the organization. In all of these efforts, the Paper Machine Manager will lead through the development and implementation of sustainable processes that improve operational and organizational effectiveness.
  • As part of the papermaking operations leadership team for the mill, this person will provide knowledge and expertise to contribute to addressing broader issues that are impacting the mill’s performance.
  • This person will be a champion for employee and career development for the organization. Take an active role in developing and mentoring direct reports, while coaching them on similar efforts with their people. In all of these activities, this position will work to develop a cohesive, well trained, and high performing team.

  • Business acumen and critical thinking skills. Intellectual strength and learning agility, with the ability to quickly grasp the business and its operational and financial levers for success. Comfortable with ambiguity with the ability to work through new and different challenges. Analytical and data driven approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Self-motivated and driven to succeed. The Paper Machine Manager will have a significant degree of latitude and autonomy and must have the substance and resourcefulness to proactively resolve issues.
  • Consummate team player and coach. Places the success of the company above his/her need for individual recognition. Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and receptive to input and feedback. The ability to work with the operating crew to establish credibility and help them learn and develop the skills necessary to be a high performing team is essential.
