Position Description
Installs, maintains, and collects data from Santee Cooper's electric meters. This position involves working both independently and as part of a team to ensure accurate and efficient metering processes. Ensures all new meter installs, meter cut-outs, disconnections for non-payment, meter exchanges and restores are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Verifies and ensures all customer meter bases have the necessary inspections and are marked correctly. Helps protect Santee Cooper's revenue and assets against power theft and meter tampering and reports hazardous conditions.

Essential Job Tasks
- Installs and connects electric meters at residential and commercial locations according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Removes and replaces malfunctioning or outdated meters, ensuring proper functionality.
- Conducts routine inspections of electric meters to identify and address any issues affecting accuracy or performance.
- Performs basic maintenance and repairs on meters, and escalates complex issues to appropriate department.
- Maintains accurate records of meter installations, removals, and maintenance activities.
- Ensures field activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Checks meter socket for correct voltages and verifies meter readings.
- Checks to make sure meter, meter base number and address correspond with information in CC&B.
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding metering processes and addresses any concerns or issues while in the field.
- Interacts with customers in a professional and courteous manner during meter installation, removal, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinates and works closely with other departments, including customer service, billing, metering and operations, regarding any residential or small commercial metering issues.
- Investigates meter tampering and theft of electricity.
- Photographs, collects and preserves evidence for Law Enforcement, when necessary.
- Required to be on-call for specified weekends and nights to turn meters on or troubleshoot power issues, as necessary.
- Associate's Degree 2 years experience or High school Diploma 5 years of experience.
- Must have knowledge of electrical systems and components.
- Must have ability to work outdoors and in various working conditions.
- Previous experience in meter installation, maintenance or a related field preferred.
