Position Overview
The Santa Monica Art Museum is seeking a part-time/temporary, Operations Supervisor to support the General Manager in overseeing daily operations. This hands-on role is ideal for an adaptable, detail-oriented professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about art, culture, and community engagement. The Operations Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, supporting exhibitions and events, and enhancing the visitor experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Support – Assist in the overall management of museum operations, including scheduling, floor supervision, and coordination with front-of-house staff.
- Staff Leadership – Provide on-site supervision and guidance to team members; serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) when present.
- Exhibitions & Events – Support the execution of exhibitions, public programs, rentals, and special events, ensuring seamless setup, operation, and breakdown.
- Project Management – Collaborate with the General Manager to implement policies, streamline procedures, and track progress on operational projects.
- Visitor Experience – Address operational issues promptly, identify solutions, and maintain a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for all guests.
- Community Engagement & Social Media – Represent the museum at select community and industry events, and assist with capturing photos, videos, or updates for museum social media channels to highlight exhibitions and events.
- Administrative Tasks – Complete reports, scheduling updates, and other administrative duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in museums, attractions, themed environments, cultural institutions, customer service leadership, or relevant leadership roles.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills; able to adapt in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and collaborate across departments.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate and guide staff.
- A passion for art, culture, or themed entertainment.
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) and comfort contributing content in alignment with museum branding.
- Fabrication, technical, or event production skills are a plus.

- Schedule: Flexible, primarily evenings and weekends depending on museum programming and event calendar

- Relocation: Must be able to relocate to or reside within commuting distance prior to start date
