Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations. Oversee assigned student activities and services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university-Required
Texas principal or another appropriate Texas certificate- Required
Certified Texas Teacher Support and Evaluation System (T-TESS) appraiser
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of campus operations
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three to five years’ experience as a classroom teacher
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
1. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
2. Reinforce expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and classroom management.
3. Support Principal in all components of Teacher Incentive allotment (walkthroughs, calibrations, data, student growth goal setting and monitoring, SLOs, portfolios, etc.)
4. Lead and support district initiatives for all grant related activities. Be responsible that all assurances are met by due dates, coordinate with the approved provider on a regular basis, attend check-ins, webinars, PLCs hosted by provider and/or TEA.
5. Conduct walkthroughs for all initiatives in support of effective instruction and implementation of instructional strategies aimed at strengthening the academic experience of students.
6. Collective Learning: Completion of all required training (grant or other) on the research-based instructional strategies covering all content areas, electives, early college, assessment, and implementation of best practices.
7. Plan and implement effective PLCs which provide effective professional development for teachers in areas such as lesson planning/internalization, data dashboards/data walls, tutorials/interventions, testing program, student assistance programs, curriculum, instruction and assessment, etc.
8. Facilitate and support the district/campus leadership in master schedules, PLC schedules, material/resource inventories, daily schedules, etc.
9. Support all efforts to implement district/campus academic initiatives.
10. Deliver quality PD to teachers; provide effective coaching to all teachers; oversee and monitor all programmatic activities having to do with classroom instruction and student achievement.
11. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
12. Lead and support district/campus leaders and staff in the monitoring and compliance of all special populations (GT, EBs, SPED, Migrant, 504, Dyslexia, At-Risk, etc.)
13. Take the lead role as campus testing coordinator for all campus testing programs (TXKEA, CLI, TPRI/Tejas Lee, STAAR, TELPAS, AP College Board, etc.). Lead all training, accommodations, testing plans/schedules, etc.
School/Organizational Improvement
14. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission/vision.
15. Assist the campus principal to lead and implement the testing program for the campus in collaboration with district testing staff ensuring that all requirements are planned, implemented and monitored.
16. Meet with teachers to plan and implement the testing program including testing schedules, testing groups, testing accommodations/designated supports, compliance with 504, RTI, Sped, Dyslexia, etc.
17. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
18. Assist principal to develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
19. Support campus principal to lead all efforts of school improvement in all areas such as compliance, extracurricular, curricular, instructional, and assessment
20. Support, facilitate and/or lead school and organizational improvements to strengthen and increase student achievement in STAAR/EOC, TELPAS and other district/campus initiatives such as TSIA2, SAT/ACT, AP, Early College, CCMR, etc.
Student Management
21. May act as a campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
22. Supports the Principal to work with faculty and students to develop and implement a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
23. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
24. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
25. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
26. Attend all activities which require supervision of students in all academic and extracurricular activities as directed by campus principal (before, during, and after school and weekends if necessary).
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
27. Oversee campus operations in principal’s absence.
28. Assume leadership for planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
29. Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.
30. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
31. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in accordance with district procedures.
32. Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
33. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
Personnel Management
34. Observe employee performance, calibration activities, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser as needed for designated teacher appraisal system.
35. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
School/Community Relations
36. Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
37. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
38. Facilitate, conduct, plan, implement, and monitor all activities with family and community aimed at strengthening the academic experience of students and in support of teaching and learning.
Other
39. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
40. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the work of professional staff as assigned by the school principal. Direct the work of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, administrative assistants, and others as assigned.
