Duties
- Safely operate school buses and paratransit vehicles along designated routes, adhering to traffic laws and safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle mechanical safety and readiness before each shift
- Assist students boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring proper behavior management and child safety at all times
- Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate schedules and address concerns
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, student attendance, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports
- Provide excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment for students and addressing their needs compassionately
- Follow all federal, state, and local transportation regulations related to commercial driving and school bus operations
Experience
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus driving or willingness to obtain one upon hire
- Prior experience in bus driving or commercial driving is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for qualified candidates
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus to assist diverse communities
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle operations to perform basic inspections and troubleshoot minor issues
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to promote safe conduct on the bus
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively while maintaining safety standards
