Position Summary
Santa Fe South High School is seeking a mission-driven High School History Teacher who believes in the power of social studies education to help students understand the world, think critically, and engage thoughtfully in civic life.
The History Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to Oklahoma Academic Standards in social studies courses such as U.S. History, World History, Government, or Oklahoma History. Through strong instructional practices, meaningful classroom discussions, and analysis of historical texts and events, the teacher will help students develop critical thinking, historical reasoning, and academic writing skills.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in assigned history or social studies courses
- Design lessons that engage students in historical inquiry, critical thinking, discussion, and analysis of primary and secondary sources
- Support students in developing strong reading, writing, and argumentation skills through historical content
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide targeted support to students who need additional help in mastering course content
Classroom Culture and Environment
- Establish a structured, respectful classroom culture that promotes academic engagement and thoughtful discussion
- Build strong relationships with students and maintain high expectations for both academic achievement and personal responsibility
- Implement effective classroom management practices that maximize instructional time
Collaboration and Professional Growth
- Collaborate with department colleagues, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen curriculum and instruction
- Participate actively in professional learning, content teams, and data meetings
- Demonstrate openness to coaching, feedback, and continuous improvement in instructional practice
Family and Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and classroom expectations
- Build positive relationships with families and encourage student accountability and success
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to the broader school community through participation in school initiatives, events, and activities
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Valid Oklahoma teaching certification in Social Studies (or willingness/ability to obtain certification)
- Strong content knowledge in history and social studies
- Ability to engage high school students in meaningful discussion, analysis, and critical thinking
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to high expectations for all students
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and school leadership
