What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Santa Barbara Rescue Mission?
Position Title: Custodian
Reports To: Emergency Shelter Manager
Employment Type: Part-time, non-exempt
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly space in various areas within the building of the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the following spaces: women's bathroom, men's bathroom, upstairs bathroom, hallways, and dorms as needed.
- Sanitizing floors, sinks, mirrors, and counters within these spaces
- Monitoring and restocking paper towels, soap dispensers and toilet paper
- Monitoring trash and general cleanliness of shelter spaces
- Communicates important information to staff
OPERATION
- Daily working hours are flexible
- Would work 8-10 hours a week, part-time
- Cleaning supplies will be provided to you
Health & Safety
- While performing your duties you may come into contact with biohazard materials (e.g. bodily fluids, contaminated items).
- Follow all safety protocols during training, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Immediately report any exposure or unsafe conditions to your supervisor

This position ensures that the above spaces are properly maintained to promote a clean and safe environment for occupants and visitors of SBRM.
