JOB SUMMARY:
The benefits Coordinator is responsible to manage employee benefit programs including insurance, retirement, leaves of absence and paid time off policies. The benefits Coordinator will be the primary liaison between Sand Associates, brokers, and benefit providers; assisting to resolve questions and requests for information, manage the online enrollment and termination of benefits processes, provide benefit orientations, and manage the open enrollment process. The benefits Coordinator will act as the Wellness Champion and be a member of the Wellness Committee. Additionally, partner with Payroll and Accounting teams to verify all insurance billings and ensure compliance with benefit plans and required notices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Enrolls new hires and newly eligible associates in benefit plans and provides benefits orientation.
- Processes status changes and reviews claims.
- Processes open enrollment and benefit plan transfers.
- Maintains vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.
- Provides vendors appropriate documentation for life, pension, and disability benefits claims.
- Evaluates and compares existing employee benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.
- Analyzes results of comparison and surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
- Analyzes employee utilization of current benefits and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
- Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefit plan changes to associates.
- Processes leave of absence approvals and rejections.
- Provide guidance to Associates and Managers with questions on paid time off benefits such as PTO, Sick Time and other paid time off as outline the Associate Handbooks.
- Responds to requests for information for workers compensation claims.
- Issues annual individual summary of benefits and required notices to associates.
- Maintains employee benefit files and other record keeping.
- Act as the Wellness Champion as a member of the Wellness Committee to enhance knowledge and participation in wellness programs and contribute updated information to the monthly HR Newsletter, Sand on Demand.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
1. Provide routine coverage for front desk duties in the absence of the Front Office Administrator
2. Assist with HRIS system maintenance, updates, and support as needed.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial and legal documents related to benefit administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from associates, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to speak in groups and host meetings as well as provide content for articles for company newsletter that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical information and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Human Resource System software; Benefit enrollment and Database software.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions; written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Customer Service Skills - Ability to communicate with all levels of Associates with professionalism, patience, and a “people-first” attitude and demonstrate Sand Companies, Inc. core values of: Stewardship, Integrity, Trust, and Excellence.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in human resources and a minimum of two years benefit administration related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to pass a drug and background check.
