Near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Area (Relocation Required)


Sanctus Stone Works is seeking an experienced stone sculptor and architectural stone finisher to join our growing studio near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This is not a production factory position. We are looking for an artist who is passionate about traditional Catholic art, architecture, sculpture, and the permanence of stone craftsmanship.


Our work includes hand-finishing marble and limestone statues, altars, baptismal fonts, architectural carvings, monastery projects, church restorations, and custom ecclesiastical commissions inspired by the great cathedrals and churches of Europe. If you have a deep appreciation for Catholic theology, history, sacred art, and traditional craftsmanship, and possess the skill to transform raw stone into a work of art, we want to hear from you.


Responsibilities

  • Hand-finish marble, limestone, and other natural stone using traditional and modern techniques
  • Remove CNC machining marks and refine surfaces to the highest artistic standards
  • Execute architectural carvings and sculptural details that precisely match CAD design drawings and specifications
  • Create and reproduce a variety of stone finishes ranging from rough-hewn textures to finely refined surfaces
  • Use chisels, pneumatic carving tools, rasps, rifflers, diamond abrasives, grinders, Dremel tools, and polishing equipment
  • Move and handle stone blocks, sculptures, and architectural elements using forklifts, hoists, lifting equipment, and shop machinery
  • Assist with project assembly, preparation, and quality control
  • Travel periodically for church restoration projects, monument restoration, sculpture installation support, and field work when required
  • Collaborate with designers, architects, sculptors, and craftsmen to achieve historically accurate and architecturally correct results
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional workshop environment


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of stone carving, stone sculpting, or architectural stone finishing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with marble, limestone, or comparable carving stone
  • Strong understanding of sculptural form, proportion, and architectural detailing
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, sections, and design documents
  • High attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship
  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy materials
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel when required
  • Passion for traditional Catholic architecture, sculpture, history, and theology
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ecclesiastical art and architecture
  • Background in restoration or conservation work
  • Experience operating forklifts, hoists, cranes, or rigging equipment
  • Familiarity with Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance, or Classical architectural styles
  • Experience with ornamental carving, statuary, or monument work
  • Additional skills in woodworking, carpentry, metalworking, stained glass, painting, mold making, casting, or related traditional crafts

Location Requirement

This is an on-site position. Applicants must be willing to relocate to the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania area. Remote work is not available.

Hiring Process


Round One: Initial Interview
