Position Overview
We are seeking a friendly, knowledgeable, and sales-driven Optician to join our team. This role involves working closely with patients to select eyewear, explaining lens options, verifying prescriptions, and ensuring patients receive the highest quality eyewear and service.
The ideal candidate is confident in optical sales, enjoys styling frames for patients, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting frames that complement their prescription, face shape, lifestyle, and personal style
- Interpret prescriptions and recommend appropriate lens designs and coatings
- Take accurate optical measurements (PD, seg heights, etc.)
- Adjust, repair, and dispense eyewear
- Verify lenses using optical equipment such as a lensometer
- Explain vision insurance benefits and coverage to patients
- Calculate pricing and process eyewear orders
- Provide education on lens technology and proper eyewear care
- Deliver exceptional patient service and follow-up support
- Maintain accurate patient records using EHR systems
Qualifications
- Optical experience is required
- Strong retail sales and customer service skills
- Experience with frame styling and lens recommendations
- Familiarity with vision insurance plans
- Experience using EHR systems
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred (but not required):
- ABO certification
Compensation
$22 – $27 per hour depending on experience
Opportunity for performance-based bonuses tied to optical sales. Can add $5-15 more per hour.
