San Miguel Power Association (SMPA) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Service Planner to join our Engineering team. This tiered position offers an excellent opportunity to grow a career in electric cooperative field engineering, from entry-level training through full professional competency. The successful candidate will report out of our Ridgway office location.
Position Overview:
The Service Planner works directly with SMPA members and their contractors to design, stake, estimate, and coordinate line extensions, service upgrades, and infrastructure replacements in alignment with SMPA's Line Extension Policy and Procedures. This position serves the entire SMPA service territory, with a primary focus in the Ridgway area.
This position is structured in four progressive tiers, each typically lasting a minimum of six months. Advancement and pay progression are based on performance, experience, and training milestones. Candidates who already meet full qualifications and demonstrate complete competency may be hired as a Service Planner V.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in electrical or surveying preferred)

Certification or enrollment in a power-line design and staking program (preferred)

Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Valid Colorado driver's license
Fully Competent Service Planner Requires:

5 years of directly related utility line design or operations experience

Advanced training and certification in power-line design and staking

Proficiency in overhead and underground line design, and related software

Knowledge of rights-of-way, easements, and permitting processes
