TITLE – Public School Nurse
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. California credential authorizing service as a school nurse. Hold valid California drivers license and provide personal motor vehicle. Hold valid certificates in audiometry, CPR and first aid.
B. Experience
1. Five years successful nursing experience
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in planning the school health budget.
2. Obtain a general health and developmental history for Special Education placement studies
3. Transport sick children as deemed necessary
4. Refer pupils for appropriate health care and follows through as needed
5. Review health status of pupils with identified health problems
6. Conduct vision, hearing and scoliosis screening as required by law
7. Identify pupils and families in need of health counseling and makes appropriate referral
8. Attend Special Education Student Study Team meetings as needed
9. Assist in identifying candidates and establishing arrangements for home teaching due to illness
10. Supervise compliance with immunization laws
11. Communicate with staff regarding current communicable disease control and staff
12. Advise in matters relating to health education and safety for pupils and staff
13. Serve as a resource to individual teachers
14. Participate in Substance Abuse Prevention Program
15. Arrange for free or part-pay health services when needed (medical care, dental care, eye care and special appliances)
16. Identify and reports to authorities pupils showing evidence of sexual and physical abuse
17. Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities
18. Perform other related duties as assigned
