Primary Purpose:
The District Curriculum Specialist will provide guidance, direction, and coordination in the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The specialist will communicate and work closely with the director of curriculum and instruction, school administrators, and campus instructional support to implement and achieve the district’s curriculum goals and initiatives. The position will support campuses throughout the district who are instructing students that are considered at-risk and/or educationally disadvantaged.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from an accredited university in educational administrations, content area, or
curriculum and instruction preferred
Valid Texas teaching certification in the content area - Reading Language Arts (RLA)
Bilingual certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough knowledge of state assessments and standards, technology integration, and research-based instructional practices
Thorough knowledge and understanding of curriculum design, instructional methods, and effective implementation
Ability to work on collaborative teams, exhibit positive interpersonal relationships, simultaneously handle multiple tasks, move forward with consensus decision making, and align with department mission and vision
Capacity to conduct instructional program evaluations and redesign where needed
Capacity to interpret and utilize performance data
Ability to effectively collaborate with campus and district staff
Ability to design and effectively facilitate professional development for campuses who are instructing students considered at-risk and/or educationally disadvantaged
Bilingual preferred
Experience:
Five years of teaching experience in the subject area - Reading Language Arts (RLA)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Participate and engage in professional learning with a focus on improving the effectiveness of curriculum implementation and instruction, including in the area of blended coaching
- Lead development, implementation and regular revision of curriculum as indicated in district adoption calendar, pacing guides, and updates in state standards
- Facilitate meetings with campus instructional support in the revising and writing of curriculum to ensure quality and effective instruction without overlaps or gaps
- Observe classrooms and learning environment with a focus on improving effectiveness of curriculum resources and instructional implementation
- Present information and professional learning to a variety of educational professionals, including teachers, educational leaders, and staff with a focus on improving curriculum implementation and instruction
- Provide ongoing professional learning based on district initiatives, goals, and curriculum implementation data
- Assume responsibility for instructional leadership in short and long term curriculum development
- Support educational teams with effective analysis and utilization of student data for improving, modifying and adjusting instruction and informing site and grade level improvement plans, including coaching cycles
- Support the district assessment program and the implementation of local assessments
- Assure horizontal and vertical alignment of district curriculum and alignment with current standards
- Work with the directors of curriculum and instruction and campus instructional support to develop the district assessment calendar
- Engage in current research, provide school and district-wide professional learning, and disseminate information and other significant educational developments on the state and national levels regarding best practices
- Communicate and negotiate with curriculum, instruction, and assessment vendors
- Supervise the selection and allocation of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment
- Comply with all policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, district and campus routines and regulations

Occasional prolonged or irregular hours, ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
