Instructional Aides at SLCUSD assist our teachers with a variety of instructional support tasks relating to the operation of a classroom or other instructional program, work with individual or small groups of students, and perform related duties as assigned.
Current vacancy locations are at Bishop's Peak Elementary and Los Ranchos Elementary, both in San Luis Obispo. **Future vacancy locations and hours may vary. The eligibility list created by this recruitment will be used to fill vacancies that occur over a six month period.
Instructional Aide assignments may be between 16.25 - 32.5 hours per week and require availability Monday through Friday, five days per week, and are typically in either a TK or Kinder classroom. The assignments are on a 180 work day per year calendar (plus 13 paid holidays each year).

NCLB Compliance
Must submit ONE of the following: College transcript showing an AA degree or 48 semester units, OR a certificate showing a passing score on an NCLB Paraprofessional Exam. (If you do not meet this requirement, but meet other screening criteria, you will be invited to take the exam for this position.)
Candidates who successfully pass screening and have submitted all required documents will be contacted regarding next steps for the recruitment. In order to proceed in the recruitment, candidates must meet minimum eligibility requirements and must submit a complete application, including the required attachments listed below.
Oral Board interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Comments and Other Information
The intent of this recruitment is to fill upcoming vacancies for Instructional Aide positions at school sites in our District, and to build an eligibility list to fill position vacancies that may occur over a six month period. Hours and locations may vary. All positions require employees to work in-person, Monday through Friday, five days per week. Fingerprint and TB clearance are required prior to starting work after a conditional offer is made.
Position start date will be August 20, 2026.
STEPS IN THE RECRUITMENT:
1. Applications will be screened and evaluated for relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and experience on a job-related basis.
2. Candidates who successfully pass screening and have submitted all required documents will proceed to an oral interview. An oral interview covering personal qualifications, experience, and training is required to becoming established on an eligibility list.
a. Candidates who do not possess an AA/AS Degree, or who have not completed two full years of college coursework (48 semester units or 60 quarter units from an accredited college, with a grad of C or better) will be required to pass a written NCLB exam before proceeding to an interview. This exam is offered through SLCUSD.
3. Candidates who pass the oral interview will be added to an eligibility list.
4. Candidates will be contacted for a hiring interview when they have placed in the top three ranks of a current eligibility list, and when there is a vacancy.
a. Candidates who are not among the top three ranks will be placed on the eligibility list for six months from the date of the oral boards for other vacancies that may arise during that time.
SPECIAL NOTES:
1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process.
2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Personnel Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing.
3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview. A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces or National Guard in time of war or national emergency.
4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months.
