Who you are: As an experienced groundskeeper, you are a detail-oriented professional who has excellent time management skills and a commitment to customer service and safety. You are able to work well independently and within a team. You apply best practices and have a desire to continuously improve and grow within our organization.
As a Groundskeeper, you will collaborate with the Lead and Head Groundskeeper and be responsible for (but not limited to):
-Performing routine grounds maintenance and beautification, including mowing, trimming, planting, and cleanup.
-Supporting irrigation system operations, including adjustments and minor maintenance.
-Maintaining safety and cleanliness across outdoor areas by following established procedures and reporting hazards.
-Assisting with inventory and equipment care, including cleaning and organizing tools and workspaces.
-Safely operating machinery and tools, such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and forklifts, under supervision.
-Working collaboratively with the team to ensure grounds are maintained to district standards.
-Demonstrating reliability, teamwork, and pride in maintaining safe and welcoming outdoor environments.
What you need for this position:
-Completion of 12th grade or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training
-Resume
-Valid CA driver's license
-30 day H-6 DMV report required, if hired

SB 848 Child Safety & Employment Disclosure Requirement
Effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (School Employee Misconduct/Child Abuse Prevention Act), applicants for employment with San José Unified are subject to enhanced child safety, training, and employment disclosure requirements.
Under SB 848, schools are required to strengthen background vetting procedures and obtain employment history information related to allegations of egregious misconduct involving students. Former employers may be contacted to release records regarding substantiated findings of misconduct as permitted by law. Failure to provide complete and accurate information regarding prior educational employment or relevant misconduct findings may result in disqualification from the hiring process or withdrawal of an offer of employment.
SB 848 also expands mandated reporter requirements and requires annual child abuse prevention training for employees and certain volunteers by July 1, 2026. All employees must comply with district-adopted child safety policies, including procedures for supervising and protecting students.
