The Organization

San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center (SG/PRC) is a private, nonprofit agency contracted with the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to provide services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We proudly serve 30 cities across the Foothill, Pomona, and El Monte Health Districts within Los Angeles County. Our services span the full lifespan-from infants and toddlers, school-age children, and transition-age youth to adults and aging adults. Position Description

Under the general direction of the Service Access and Equity Director, the Manager of the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion (FG/SC) Program ensures that all services delivered to clients by Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion volunteers are in full compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding, applicable FG/SC Program regulations, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and AmeriCorps Seniors policies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform ongoing administrative duties and outreach functions involved in operating the FG/SC Program.
  • Ensure compliance with National Service Criminal History Check (NSCHC) regulations, procedures, and record storage.
  • Complete accurate background checks as required by AmeriCorps Seniors and DDS.
  • Assist volunteers in completing and submitting NSCHC paperwork as necessary.
  • Apply sound fiscal control while administering various program budgets.
  • Prepare and issue fiscal reports; statistical reports, project evaluation, and other data as required by federal, state, and SG/PRC guidelines.
  • Contract with community vendors to purchase goods and services for the program, such as nutrition services, uniforms, recognition events, and other program-related needs.
  • Responsible for the general personnel management, which includes developing and implementing procedures for recruiting, assigning, and training FG/SC volunteers.
  • Review and verify the accuracy and compliance of volunteers' timesheets, including stipends, travel, and meal reimbursements.
  • Submit payroll for stipend checks promptly to ensure timely compensation.
  • Provide individual counseling to volunteers regarding their performance, well-being, and development.
  • Engage with community groups and agencies to promote the FG/SC Program and expand volunteer participation.
  • Attend conferences and training sessions to enhance program effectiveness and stay informed of best practices.
  • Provide orientation and training to contracted sites on the appropriate utilization of FG/SC volunteers.
  • Collaborate with site staff to identify individuals who will most benefit from the services provided by FG/SC volunteers.
  • Supervise and evaluate the daily activities of FG/SC volunteers to assure compliance with the intent and the goals as indicated on the individual Assignment Plans.
  • Utilize personal vehicle to escort FG/SC volunteers for orientation sessions and fingerprinting compliance.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing recognition program to motivate volunteers and foster a positive volunteer culture.
  • Organize and facilitate monthly in-service training sessions for FG/SC volunteers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Program Specialist and FG/SC volunteers, providing guidance and support to ensure program success.
  • Develop and negotiate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with responsible agencies such as local school districts and community organizations to foster collaborative partnerships.


Requirements

Employment Standards
  • Master's degree in psychology, social work or a related human services field, plus three years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a Masters' degree.

Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of regional center systems and people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective supervision, coaching, and staff development.
  • Working knowledge of Regional Center systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with financial record keeping.
  • Demonstrated competence in program supervision, administrative experience and personnel management.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal laws pertaining to entitlement of services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven adaptability and capacity to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to use a computer and software to access volunteer information systems.
  • Ability to use other required computer functions such as utilization of America Learns database, Excel and Word.

Other Essential Requirements

Employees using a private vehicle for agency purposes must maintain a valid driver's license and minimum liability insurance coverage.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • 70% of sedentary work is performed in an office environment.
  • 20% light walking with the seniors in various environments.
  • 10% driving to orientations and finger printing with seniors
  • Clear verbal communication in person and by phone.
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of items up to 50 pounds.
  • Adequate visual acuity to read documents, use a computer monitor for prolonged periods, and review detailed information.
  • Work occurs in a typical office setting with standard lighting, temperature, and moderate noise levels.
  • Employees are expected to follow safe and ergonomic work practices.
