Under the supervision of a teacher/administrator, assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting. The primary objective of such assistance is to affect learning for mastery by implementing both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas. The employee assists certificated staff by implementing lesson plans (activities which include reviewing and correcting the work of pupils), participating in parent conferences, proctoring examinations, keeping relevant records, operating instructional equipment in appropriate instructional settings, as well as performing related duties as required.

Some positions may require conversational and written skills in a specific language(s) other than English related to the needs of the assignment. An ability to translate and adapt materials to and from English into that language(s) may also be required.

Some positions may require that the employee furnish a certificate of clearance from the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to meet District insurability.

Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.


As the Noon Monitor (3593N), you will:

  • Noon Monitors transport students from one destination to the next safely on school grounds
  • Supervise students at playtime and maintains a harmonious atmosphere on the playground.
  • Organizes group games and activities.
  • Supervises lunch recess in the cafeteria and in the school yard
  • Assist students in wellness rooms
  • Assists in restorative conversations and in response to students in crisis
  • Walks around the yards as much as possible and takes precautionary steps to help children resolve conflicts using intervention strategies, such as benching.
  • Send students to the office for medical attention or in serious discipline situations.
  • Performs other job duties as requested by site administration.

  • Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices
  • Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)


Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the employee in the pre-Kindergarten program that provides services to children who are at least 3 years and 9 months of age. Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, employees perform duties, which include the implementation of curriculum designed for the pre-Kindergarten-age population of the class listed above, examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations. Demonstrates competence in performing the following tasks: working with children, acting quickly and effectively in emergencies, working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of SFUSD, and developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff and the public.


Minimum Qualifications

An Associates Degree or higher or 48 college units and a high school diploma or passing of CBEST and a high school diploma and completion of six semester units of ECE.
