The San Francisco Early Learning Alliance (SFELA) provides high quality business services exclusively for child care centers. SFELA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of childcare programs by offering efficient back-office services, enabling center leaders and staff to concentrate on what matters most: children, families, and teachers.
As a nonprofit organization, SFELA partners with childcare centers serving low-income children and families. SFELA works closely with each client center to identify operational challenges and provide customized business services, including accounting, enrollment support, child care subsidy management, data management, and reporting.
Position Description
The Bookkeeper provides direct bookkeeping and financial support to SFELA's child care center clients. This position plays a key role in implementing SFELA's mission by delivering accurate, timely, and responsive financial services while supporting the day-to-day operations of client organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly support client centers with operational finance including bookkeeping
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions using accounting software
- Enter and reconcile credit card transactions and bank statements
- Process payroll using Intuit Payroll integrated with QuickBooks
- Prepare and generate financial reports for client centers
- Support client centers' annual independent audits by preparing required financial documentation
- Other projects and/or tasks as assigned by the SFELA Director
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
- Dedication and commitment to the organization’s mission and values
- Combination of education and 3 years accounting experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills
- At least six (6) months experience with early care and education accounting preferred
- Proficiency in QuickBooks desktop, QuickBooks online, and Xero software
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail and high accurate data entry
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision, with initiative and discretion
- Ability to prioritize tasks based on current timelines and manage competing priorities
Physical Requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands, walks, talks/listens, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls, and reaches with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts up to 20 lbs. Close and distance vision and manual dexterity to use a telephone and computer are required.

Pay: $30/hour - $35/hour
