Role Summary:
The Per Diem Dentist position at San Francisco Community Health Center provides high-quality general dental care on an as-needed basis. This role focuses on direct clinical services including examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of dental conditions. This position reports to the Dental Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Educate clients on preventative dental care and the causes and treatment of dental problems
- Treat oral diseases and collaborate with primacy care providers about medical/dental treatment plans
- Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and formulate appropriate treatment plan
- Perform oral exams, restorations, extractions, and prophylactic work
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth, gums, or related oral structures and provide preventive or corrective service
- Write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications
- Design, make or fit prosthodontic appliances, such as bridges or dentures, or write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for dental assistants
- Refer to oral surgery for oral diseases, grafting, biopsies and oral cavity resection
- Attend all staff and department meetings
- Implement QI/QA procedures, conduct QI/QA assessments, monitor QI/QA outcomes and update procedures as needed to achieve and/or surpass agency’s thresholds
- Complete required documentation in the EMR to ensure timely billing
- Respond to inquiries and grievances from clients, volunteers and community members
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Requires graduation from an accredited school of dentistry; Possession of valid D.D.S. /D.M.D.
- License to practice in the State of California
- Strong verbal and written proficiency in English
- Must obtain TB clearance (within past 12 months) and complete background check upon hire.
- Current with vaccinations including latest Covid-19 vaccine and seasonal flu, and able to provide proof.
Preferred:
- One-year or more experience in all phases of general dentistry and auxiliary utilization
- Experience working in an FQHC or other type of Community Health Center.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ community and knowledge of the communities’ specialized need
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STIs, substance use, mental health, social service and the disparities that are experienced by communities of color
- Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma informed care philosophies
