San Diego Wave Fútbol Club is on a mission to build a world class home for players and fans. Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, we are looking for a collaborative, creative, and strategic leader to serve as Director of Marketing at Wave FC. This role will lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies to enhance brand awareness, drive fan engagement, and support ticketing, partnership, and merchandise goals. As a leader in the Marketing and Communications Department, the Director of Marketing will oversee all performance marketing initiatives for the club and play an integral role in driving revenue for the club. The Director of Marketing will oversee paid media and promotional efforts across all channels, partnering closely with the club's digital team on organic social and content execution, and will lead a team of two direct reports along with the club's third-party marketing vendors and agencies, collaborating closely with internal teams, external clients, the community, and partners to create cohesive marketing campaigns aligned with organizational objectives. 

Role Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns that involve paid media, email, SMS, grass roots marketing and more. 
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and identity across all communications, including compliance with NWSL league and brand guidelines. 
  • Collaborate within the Marketing and Communications department, including the digital team on organic social and content initiatives, to ensure the club is leveraging all channels to increase brand awareness, drive revenue and improve fan engagement. 
  • Develop personalized fan journeys and integrated campaigns to support sales initiatives. 
  • Foster collaboration with ticket sales, partnerships, and revenue-driving departments. 
  • Research and forecast future sales and performance trends. 
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate team of two (2) direct reports. 
  • Manage relationships and day-to-day performance of third-party marketing vendors and agencies. 
  • Own and report on core marketing KPIs, including return on ad spend (ROAS), ticket sales contribution, and database/CRM list growth. 
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices. 
  • Adapt quickly to evolving business needs. 
  • Oversee and manage the paid media budget, analyze results to optimize return on ad spend.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, business, or related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of seven years in marketing, preferably in the sports industry, with a proven track record of successful campaigns. 
  • Highly collaborative, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • In-depth sports industry knowledge and reliable forecasting. 
  • Strong relationship-building skills internally and externally. 
  • Professional, positive, proactive, and detail oriented. 
  • Experience effectively managing budgets and optimizing maximum return. 
  • Exceptional analytical skills and data-driven decision-making. 
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities. 
  • Experience with all areas of fan engagement including grass roots marketing, match presentation, etc. 
  • Experience with marketing technology platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Ticketmaster, Spinzo, Google Analytics, and Qualtrics preferred. 
  • Flexibility: Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays for game days and events outside traditional business hours. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods, and lift/move up to 25 lbs, during gameday and event operations. 

This is a full-time role based in San Diego, California. Depending on education, skill set, and experience, the annual base salary range is $110,000-130,000.
