The SDCOE is recruiting to add to the substitute pool of Instructional Aide - Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the Davila Day School in Chula Vista, CA.

Davila Day School, Chula Vista, South County

As part of the South County SELPA, Davila Day School serves deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students, from preschool through sixth grade. The mission of the school is to provide Deaf and hard-of-hearing students a comprehensive, fully accessible and language-rich learning environment, with equal access to the general education curriculum and standards. With this environment, the students are ensured to have opportunities to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.


Under general supervision of an itinerant teacher, a Substitute Instructional Aide DHH provides specialized tutorial assistance to deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) students mainstreamed into regular classes; assists deaf and hard of hearing students in the development of communication skills; performs a variety of routine clerical duties for the deaf and hard of hearing instructional program.

THIS POSTING IS FOR A SUBSTITUTE AND/OR LIMITED-TERM POSITION.
This position is not eligible for benefits.


Experience with ASL/Sign Language is REQUIRED

Candidates must demonstrate Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, previously referred to as the NCLB Act) compliance. In order to satisfy the paraprofessional requirements of the ESSA, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND,
  • Completed at least 48-semester units at an accredited college or university; OR,
  • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; OR,
  • Successful completion of an assessment, administered by the San Diego County Office of Education, in basic reading, writing, mathematics skills, and the ability to assist with instruction. The assessment is administered only to candidates selected to move forward in the pre-employment process.

To be considered for this position, you must individually attach the following items to your completed EDJOIN Application:

  • NCLB Compliance (Proof of ESSA completion (copy of transcripts or degree))
  • Resume (detailing education and experience)
