Position Summary
To plan and implement a comprehensive Mariachi program that will foster success and community pride.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Design and implement successful teaching strategies for a high school mariachi program
2. Design and implement a mariachi program which successfully participates at UIL and other mariachi
3. contests, as well as performances within the school and community
4. Plan and prepare students for successful participation in UIL and SAISD Solo & Ensemble Contests
5. Participate in SAISD UIL Format Assessment
6. Assist with planning and implementation of the whole school music program
7. Communicate expectations and program goals to students, faculty, parents, community, and booster club
8. members
9. Plan, promote and maintain a professional and positive working relationship with feeder middle school
10. administration and staff
11. Actively coordinate the efforts of the mariachi booster organization
12. Maintain accurate mariachi equipment and uniform inventory.
13. Implement planned maintenance and cleaning schedule of equipment and uniforms
14. Maintain the Mariachi music library
15. Attend all UIL/ TMEA Region meetings, clinics, and concerts
16. Actively participate in professional development activities
17. Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education
18. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected
for this position.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training
for subject and level assigned, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the
District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
- College Hours in Mariachi Methods or Professional Mariachi Performance Experience
- No Teaching Experience: Favorable recommendation from an educational program supervisor
- 1-2 Years of Teaching Experience: The summative evaluation scores must be at “proficient” or above in
comparable performance evaluation tool
- 3 or More Years of Teaching Experience: The summative evaluation scores must be at “proficient” or
a comparable performance evaluation tool
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and skills in teaching methods and strategies in voice and mariachi instruments, including
- violin, trumpet, vihuela, guitar, and guitarron
- Knowledge and skills in teaching mariachi styles
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of technology (MIDI applications, Smart Music, Finale, Sibelius)
- Skill in the use of technology and knowledge of appropriate software for musical event and contest
- registration
- Demonstrated evidence of responsibility, competence, enthusiasm, and imagination
- Demonstrated ability to foster cooperation and establish a professional relationship with other staff
- members
- Demonstrated success in promoting positive public relations within the community
- Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining students in the program

Working Conditions
Work Environment:
- Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and

Physical Demands/Requirements:
- Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or
