Position Summary
School Social Workers acknowledge and focus on the social, emotional, and societal factors that affect a student’s
overall success. They empower students and promote behavioral and health improvement, academic
achievement, increase school attendance and improve self-esteem. School Social Workers enhance the district’s
ability to meet academic goals by providing home, school, and community assistance. This position is assigned
full time (100%) to support the State Compensatory Education campus program to increase student academic
achievement, reduce achievement gaps, and increase graduation rates for at-risk students (Fund164).
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Facilitate individual, group and family counseling sessions, including response to school wide crises.
2. Provide evidence-based interventions to develop social emotional skills and increase academic success.
3. Provide case management, consultation, collaboration, community referrals and program development.
4. Assess psychological needs and provide psychoeducation for students referred for social emotional
support and mental health services.
5. Knowledge of federal laws to include, but not limited to FERPA, HIPPA, SPED, Title 1.
6. Consult with campus administrators, teachers, and staff, regarding students’ needs.
7. Ensure accountability of data related to student service provision by using a data platform software.
8. Adhere to applicable laws and regulations governing confidentiality and ethical standards based on Texas
Education Agency (TEA) and National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
9. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
10. Provide supervision for social work interns.
11. Demonstrate the following core values: integrity, high expectations, commitment, respect, dedication to
teamwork and passion for a student-centered environment.
12. Participate in campus attendance committee, MTSS and other student support committees at the
campus.
13. Conduct home visits and/or visits to community agencies.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected
for this position.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university
- Valid licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the Texas State
Board of Social Worker
- Graduate internship in a social work setting, public school or community
- Experience with at-risk populations and cross-cultural environments
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant
- Hold a valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record and meet and maintain liability insurance
Preferred Requirements
- 2 related experience in social work
- Experience working in a school setting
- Bilingual ability in Spanish and English
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Knowledge of state and federal mandates, as they apply to Child Find, SPED, Title 1, teen parenting, early
childhood, homelessness, foster care, migrant programs, and other special populations
- Familiarity with community agencies, the services they offer, and the criteria for eligibility.
- Know and adhere to applicable laws and regulations governing confidential and ethical standards
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflicts.
- Excellent ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, district
