General Description: The primary objective of this position is to curate and maintain and keep in good condition assigned assets of the San Antonio Food Bank. The Landscape/Botanical Specialist will maintain the aesthetic and functional condition of the outdoor properties, including landscaping and grounds aligned with local seasonality and sustainability. They will also assist with other facility maintenance and janitorial duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have horticultural knowledge and experience, not just grounds keeping.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains overall condition and maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and machinery of the San Antonio Food Bank.
- Curates and maintains trees, plants, lawns, etc. and may involve some of the following: mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, mulching, and planting trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Raking leaves, clearing debris, emptying trash receptacles, and power washing surfaces.
- Assumes responsibility for plant health, pruning, trimming, and shaping of shrubs and trees.
- Monitors pest/disease, soil health, fertilizer, and plant nutrition.
- Assumes additional responsibility of building maintenance and cleanliness (i.e., offices, break rooms, meeting rooms, bathrooms, lobbies etc.)
- Operating power tools, mowers, tractors, and chainsaws, as well as maintaining irrigation systems.
- Seasonal duties such as preparing for snow/ice on walkways and parking lots; installing, maintaining, or repairing equipment, such as lighting or fences.
- Identifies and responds to broken or non-functioning items in a timely manner.
- Set-up and break down of internal equipment for events as needed.

Qualifications:Qualifications:
- High School degree or equivalent. Higher education specific to the role preferred.
- Previous work experience in horticulture, botanical services, landscaping, grounds keeping required.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods, including lifting over 50 lbs, bending, and working in varied weather conditions.
- Proficiency with hand tools (rakes, shovels, tree trimmers) and power equipment (blowers, chainsaws).
- Working experience with landscaping techniques, plant care, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff, agencies, and volunteers.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting of deadlines.
- Experience driving and towing a trailer preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, current vehicle insurance, and a clear driving record required Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
