Yard Jockey

Job Overview: The Yard Jockey is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of vehicles within the yard or warehouse premises. This role requires driving heavy-duty vehicles to ensure the smooth and effective flow of goods and materials within the facility. The Yard Jockey must ensure that trucks are positioned correctly for loading and unloading, manage yard space effectively, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Operate trucks or other equipment around the yard.

· Position trucks in dock doors for loading/unloading, ensuring that they are properly aligned and secure.

· Assist in the coordination of truck movement to ensure timely and accurate deliveries and shipments.

· Maintain an organized and safe yard by managing truck placement and ensuring equipment is in good working condition.

· Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on the trucks (e.g., checking tire pressure, fuel levels, and cleanliness).

· Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, supervisors, and truck drivers to ensure efficient operations.

· Assist with loading/unloading cargo as needed, either manually or using material handling equipment.

· Report any yard or equipment issues, safety hazards, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.

· Help manage the flow of traffic in the yard to avoid congestion and reduce delays.

· Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or operations manager.

Qualifications:

· Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· License: Valid driver’s license

· Experience: 3 years of delivery experience is preferred.

· Skills:

o Strong communication skills.

o Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

o Ability to lift and carry packages as needed.

o Time management skills.

o Prior experience as a Yard Jockey, yard driver, or in a similar role is preferred.

o Basic understanding of warehouse operations, shipping/receiving procedures, and safety protocols.

o Ability to operate heavy equipment, including yard trucks and forklifts, safely and efficiently.

o Strong communication and teamwork skills.

o Ability to work in various weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.

o Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

o Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, if necessary.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to 100 pounds.

· Ability to bend, stretch, and sit for extended periods while driving.

· Ability to handle varied weather conditions (if applicable).

Work Schedule:

· Full-time available. Weekend availability is mandatory.
