What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipper/Receiver position at Samuel, Son & Co.?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive in material receipts from internal and external vendors.
- Performs all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods.
- Enter test report data for material.
- Perform routine quality control functions such as inspecting incoming and outgoing materials, maintaining inspection equipment logs and calibrations.
- Perform activities in an operations role, which may include order pulling, receiving, shipping scheduling, operating equipment such as forklift, side loader, and overhead crane, and inventory management.
- Provide support and assistance as needed to Supervisor, Sales & Warehouse Material Handlers in unloading and putting away of material.
- Prepare bill of ladings and check all receiving bill of ladings against the order.
- Direct truck to proper unloading area (if required).
- Report any discrepancies, damage etc. to Supervisor/Purchasing Department and supply pictures if applicable.
- Assist with any material discrepancies.
- Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process and quality system.
- Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
- Perform inspections of incoming and outgoing material.
- Operate all equipment (machine and hand) safely and effectively.
- Assists in various other duties as directed by the supervisor
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. Reports safety concerns to
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 year of previous experience in logistics, warehouse, shipping and receiving, or manufacturing operations.
- Ability to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience working in a shipping/logistics department in a manufacturing environment considered a strong asset.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to handle pressures of deadlines and high work volumes.
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize work and switch directions as needed based on business demands.
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and performing physical tasks in a warehouse or yard environment.
- Basic computer skills including proficiency with AS400, Excel and Email.
- Flexible to work overtime when required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

- Basic computer skills for data entry, inventory management software, and email communication.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems is a plus.
