Senior Superintendent – BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)
Position Overview
The Senior Superintendent – BESS is responsible for the overall field execution of utility-scale battery energy storage projects. This role oversees site construction activities, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and drives schedule performance from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities for BESS projects, including civil, electrical, and mechanical scopes
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure efficient project execution
- Enforce strict compliance with safety programs, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Develop, maintain, and drive the project schedule in collaboration with project management
- Oversee installation of battery systems, inverters, transformers, MV/HV infrastructure, and SCADA systems
- Ensure quality control standards are met across all phases of construction
- Identify and proactively resolve field issues, risks, and constraints
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
- Maintain accurate daily reports, progress tracking, and documentation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design discrepancies and RFIs
- Support project budgeting by managing labor, equipment, and productivity in the field
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact for clients and stakeholders
Qualifications
- 8–12 years of construction experience, with at least 3–5 years in a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent role
- Proven experience delivering utility-scale BESS, solar, or renewable energy projects
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including medium- and high-voltage infrastructure
- Experience with battery storage technologies and integration is highly preferred
- Deep understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and site logistics
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- OSHA 30 (or equivalent Canadian safety certification such as COR/CRSP) required
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
Salary : $160,000 - $180,000
