POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of a senior engineer/lead designer is responsible for design of a major component or part of a project requiring a thorough knowledge of drafting/design and related fields. Incumbents at this level are capable of handling assignments which involve a variety of design procedures and techniques.
Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions.
Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines.
Problem/ Task resolution timeframe: The majority of tasks typically take one to two days to resolve.
Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Piping Designer Intern
- Works closely with a member of the team to enhance knowledge and skillset.
- Learns and implements the Company’s Best Practices for projects and processes.
- Assist on simple piping concepts with oversight from a mentor.
Piping Designer IV
- Works closely with a member of the team to enhance knowledge and skillset.
- Learns and implements the Company’s Best Practices for projects and processes.
- Prepares design of piping systems, drawings, and structures, with computer aided tools (CAD, etc.) while maintaining the quality, content and design standards of the organization’s products and projects.
Piping Designer III
- Produces highly advanced and complex designs in a specialized field.
- Discusses special problems with professional staff and recommends solutions to design problems.
- Responsible for scheduling and coordinating the activities of assigned designers and drafters, assessing resources and allocating work to meet priorities.
Piping Designer II
- Assists in creating and submitting written and technical reports in regard to the nature, status, and result of design assignments.
- Identifies cost effective solutions to design problems while remaining within the allotted budget.
- Develop modification in existing techniques and procedures or make recommendations regarding their improvement.
Piping Designer I
- Develops, approves, and coordinates work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality, and time are met.
- Investigates, advises, and solves unusual design and field engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in novel ways.
- Requires effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and associates for the purpose of discussing design problems, explaining design features and specifications.
Qualifications
JOB LEVEL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Designer Intern - Education = Enrolled in Tech/Trade School
Designer IV - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent
Designer III - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 2 years
Designer II - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 4 years
Designer I - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 6 years
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A technical college or related experience.
- Competence in computer applications for design engineering.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
Sufficient vision or vision correction.
Ability to operate a computers keyboard and mouse.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Overtime may be required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
Occasional domestic and/or international travel and field assignments may be required.
